Troubleshooting My Tack's Location Accuracy

Modified on Fri, 13 Dec at 11:48 AM

Why is my tracker's location not updating?

There are a few possible reasons why your app is not receiving accurate location updates or detecting movement from your Tack GPS device:

1. Your Tack Has Not Moved

To optimise battery performance, your Tack only reports in the next tracking interval when there is a change in its location.

Don't worry, even when your Tack hasn't moved for a long time, it will do an occasional force reporting of its location at every "Still" interval of its Tracking Mode to keep you posted.

2. Wrong Tracking Mode Settings

There is a possibility you might be using a Tracking Mode that does not meet your required reporting frequency. If you require a faster tracking interval, you can change your Tack's Tracking Mode by going to:

Device Tab > Device List > select relevant device > Tracking Modes

3. Poor Signal

If you see "Weak Signal, Location Estimated" on your Tack's profile, your Tack may be in an area with poor coverage or something is blocking the signal. While it works to establish an updated location, it will display the last known location reported to our servers.

4. Pet Mode Is Switched On

Pet Mode is recommended for pets that wear Tack GPS at all times. When Pet Mode is turned ON, our device's A.I. algorithm tracks its location only when your pet’s footsteps are detected. Hence, the tracker may not track accurately when it is on a moving vehicle and no footsteps are being detected.

5. Improper Placement

Improper placement could result in poor network conditions that delay notifications and affect battery performance. Here are a few recommendations to help improve your Tack's battery life and location accuracy:

  1. Ensure that the Tack's position is clear of heavy obstructions (e.g. within multiple compartments, inside a shoe, in pockets or regions with close skin contact, or hidden under a pet’s neck)
  2. Try a different placement or attachment method if your Tack experiences weak signal strength, quick battery drain or delayed notifications
  3. Keep away from metal objects like dog tags, belt buckles, metal chains
  4. Avoid keeping the Tack in a locker throughout the day to maintain battery life

6. Your Tack is Powered Off or Out Of Battery

If your Tack GPS device's battery was fully drained in the last use, it may be powered off. Simply press the device's Power Button once after charging to turn it back on. A blue LED will light up to indicate that the device is powering up.

If your device still does not appear after charging, we recommend that you do a hard reset. Press and hold the device's Power Button for 10 secs to shut it down, and when the LED switches off, press the Power Button once again.

If all else does not work, please contact our support team at service@tackgps.app with the serial number of your device or the email address which the tracker is registered to.
