Troubleshooting My Tack's Location Accuracy

Modified on Wed, 22 Jan at 1:33 PM

If your Tack GPS device is not providing accurate location updates or detecting movement, several factors could be affecting its performance. Here’s a detailed guide to troubleshoot these issues:

1. Your Tack Has Not Moved

  • Why It Happens:

    • To optimise battery performance, your Tack only reports its location at the next tracking interval when movement is detected.

  • What You Can Do:

    • Even if your Tack hasn’t moved, it will perform a forced location report at its "Still" interval based on the selected Tracking Mode.

2. Your Tack Is Powered Off or Out of Battery

  • Why It Happens:

    • The device may have powered off due to a fully drained battery.

  • What You Can Do:

    • Charge the device and press the Power Button once to ensure it is powered back on.

    • If it still doesn’t respond, perform a hard reset:

      • Press and hold the Power Button for 10 seconds until the LED switches off.

      • Press the Power Button again to restart the device.

3. Wrong Tracking Mode Settings

  • Why It Happens:

    • You may be using a Tracking Mode that does not meet your required reporting frequency.

  • What You Can Do:

    • Switch to a faster Tracking Mode by navigating to:

      • Device Tab > My Devices List > select the relevant device >  Modes

4. Poor Signal

  • Why It Happens:

    • If you see "Weak Signal, Location Estimated" on your Tack’s profile, the device may be in an area with poor coverage or blocked by obstructions.

  • What You Can Do:

    • Move the device to an area with better signal strength.

    • While the device establishes an updated location, it will display the last known location reported to our servers.

5. Pet Mode Is Switched On

  • Why It Happens:

    • When Pet Mode is ON, the device’s A.I. algorithm only tracks location when footsteps are detected. If the tracker is on a moving vehicle, it may not track accurately.

  • What You Can Do:

    • Consider switching off Pet Mode if the device is not consistently worn by a pet or is frequently in vehicles.

6. Improper Placement

  • Why It Happens:

    • Improper placement can result in poor signal strength and delayed location updates.

  • What You Can Do:

    • Ensure the Tack is not:

      • Obstructed by heavy materials (e.g., inside multiple compartments, shoes, or pockets).

      • Positioned near metal objects like dog tags, belt buckles, or metal chains.

    • Try repositioning the Tack for better signal strength and performance.
