Why Is My Tack GPS's Tracking Mode on the App Blinking and Remaining in Transition?

Modified on Wed, 22 Jan at 2:19 PM

If your Tack GPS's Tracking Mode is blinking in the OurSphere app and remains in transition, it indicates that the mode change is in progress but has not yet been applied. Here’s why this happens and what you can do about it:

Why Does the Tracking Mode Remain in Transition?

  1. Waiting for the Device to Wake Up:

    • The blinking indicates that the selected Tracking Mode change is pending and will take effect when the Tack GPS device wakes up to connect to the network for its next location update.

  2. Device Has Not Moved:

    • For the purpose of battery optimisation, if the Tack GPS device remains stationary, it will not initiate a network connection to report its location or apply any new mode settings until the next scheduled "Still" interval.

  3. Emergency Mode Settings:

    • If you select Emergency Mode, it will only remain active for 1 hour from the time it is triggered on the OurSphere app. If the tracker does not detect any location changes within that hour, the Emergency Mode update will expire.

How to Apply the Tracking Mode Immediately

To force the device to apply the new Tracking Mode immediately:

  1. Press the Power Button:

    • Press the Power Button on your Tack GPS device to manually wake it up and initiate a network connection.

  2. Wait for Confirmation:

    • Once the device successfully connects to the network, the new Tracking Mode will be updated.

    • The blinking in the app will stop, and you will receive a notification confirming the change.

Tips to Ensure Smooth Mode Changes

  • Check Device Placement:

    • Ensure the device is not obstructed or placed in areas with poor network coverage.

  • Avoid Frequent Mode Changes:

    • Allow the device to complete one mode transition before initiating another to avoid unnecessary delays.

  • Monitor Emergency Mode:

    • Use Emergency Mode only when immediate updates are needed, and ensure the device is actively moving within the set duration.

FAQs

Q1: Why is my device still in transition after several hours?

  • If the device has not moved or connected to the network, the mode change will remain pending. Use the Power Button to wake the device and apply the changes.

Q2: Can I cancel a mode change in transition?

  • Yes, it is possible to cancel a mode change by selecting the previous tracking mode. Any new tracking mode will only take effect when  the Tack GPS device initiates a network connection.

Q3: Does switching to Emergency Mode affect battery life?

  • Yes, Emergency Mode consumes more battery due to frequent location updates. It is recommended to use this mode sparingly.
